Grantmaking Guidelines

Education and Environmental Grants

The Foundation works to fulfill the philanthropic interests established by Bruce Krier in support of local education and environmental causes. The Foundation limits its giving to Wisconsin-based organizations, principally but not limited to the counties of Sheboygan and Ozaukee, and distributes grants only to organizations that qualify as 501(c)(3) charitable organization according to IRS code.

In addition, the Foundation is guided by the following limitations:

  • BKCF provides grants only to charitable organizations that spend 25% or less of its annual expenses on administrative and fundraising activities combined.
  • BKCF does not provide grants to individuals, to influence election outcomes, or to conduct voter registration drives.
  • Outside of its college scholarship program, BKCF prefers to provide matching grants to organizations to inspire others to invest in important opportunities.
  • When making gifts that are not matching grants, BKCF is inclined to give donations that complete a project, rather than start a project.
